DRIVING-SQUARE proposes a permeable development, a unifying urban network that is a medium for evolutional "pragmatic-programatic" events to occur with a view to reconcilling the citizen, the motorist, and the public urban space. We propose a genesis of the contemporary man! by intensifying the tripartite typology of what is existing and simultaneously diluting it by shifting its centre of gravity (piazza matteotti) to the old library.Actually, if once upon a time man was descended from the ape, nowadays he alights from his vehicle..."La Place" in all its meanings, is therefore typified by "birth", "adulthood", and "old age" of the urban human species. We are bound to realise the impact of cars , specially in towns of average population density.DRIVING-SCARE is currently the position of town planning , entirely based on schizophrenic attitude in relation to the flood of cars, thus offering endless pedestrianized streets, empty squares...etc...for the sake of witch hunting , a neo-kitch anti-car campaign has been conducted . How can we trace back our origins ?... DRIVING-SQUARE BIRTH It is the pearmeable part , this area acts as an Urban flow control, a genuine introduction to what can be done there. This alike comb made of traslucent veils, outsmarting the status (night/ day lighting , different positions of veils ) acts as anetwork for interference , that's of human activity.Inspired by the building site protective clothing , it heralds ,in essence , a spot stirring with life through a device composed of a double revolving axis pulling along a cloth made of translucent polyester and fibreglass. The latter pivotes in an independant way according to what the square is engaged in. the device controls parking and is assisted by diffused lighting , at a low angle under the post (the parking lot can hold from 0 up to 120 cars according to the bustling of the square) The traslucent veils are used as a means of framing (namely on the hill, along the via Dante) or of shading. Using this space for parking makes it possible to free the surrounding pavements with a view to having greater space. On top of having the parking space of Driving-Square composed like a mineral garden, punctuated with a few plants (the existing trees rather ill-assorted, have not been included in this part of the project, however they can be integrated if wished ) there is the additional bus stop via Dante, The overall picture is a low-angled, shifting frame. It is an open invitation to leave one's car there and walk towards adulthood... ADULTHOOD. It is an exclusively pedestian area . In its outer part, it is feeded with a series of totems (public lavatories, recycling bins, newsstands, pay-phones, storage facilities for bikes and others, cafeterias... if not nedeed these items can be occuped by plants ) As it is situated in the middle of two periods of man's life, it may have an impact on the younger group but not on the older one ( in other words it can stretch away programme ). In its inner part , the old library, there will be premises for community life , a tourist information office, multimedia workshops, elements of citizenship emulation. Once satisfied, time for a rest will be coming . WISDOM AGE. It takes up the piazza Piave. It is mainly a vegetable area, retaining what is in existence, it harbours several vegetable rooms instead of one, made of evergreen hedges representing the weft of the veils, it is a place where one can rest peacefully and recall the place one has come from...
